Pulitzer Prize-winning The Story of Civilization is, shockingly, currently out of print — but I would also list Kenneth Waltz whose Man, The State , And War (1959) remains one of the foundation texts of International Relations. In this article, I put three works into conversation: William Golding's Lord of the Flies, Thomas Hobbes's Leviathan and Kenneth Waltz's Man, the State and War.
